Dry summer 2020?

Dry summer 2020?

Using humic acids in heat and drought to secure yields and lush green

- Humic acids are directly involved in the formation of permanent humus and a stable crumb structure, which improves the water retention capacity of soils.

- They mobilise important nutrients in dry soils and keep them available for plants over a long period of time.

Summer in April - the persistent drought causes stress on and in the soil

Whilst people are currently enjoying the beautiful spring weather, farmers are looking at the weather maps with increasing concern. The drought in Germany, which has lasted for weeks, has already completely dried out the uppermost layer of soil in many places. Sugar beets and malting barley do not germinate, fruit farmers have to water heavily to ensure the conditions for a good harvest, even winter fruits suffer from water shortage. Meteorologists in Germany are warning of dust storms and thus a loss of fertile topsoil. The year 2020 thus follows on seamlessly from the extremely dry springs of 2018 and 2019.

Especially at the beginning of the growing season, arable crops need a lot of water

Actually, a moderate spring drought encourages the young plants to develop a deep root system.  But without a moist topsoil, germination is not possible. Especially the summer crops, whose seeds should now start to sprout, have not yet germinated due to the very early onset of drought and late frost or have not been able to develop root systems in deeper soil layers.

Humic acids: a miracle substance from nature for nature

Humic acids are able to effectively counteract many of these problems. The highly complex molecules occur naturally in humus-rich soils and are found in concentrated form in peat and soft lignite (Leonardite). As the main component of humus, they are the most important factor for soil fertility and essential for an undisturbed nutrient exchange between soil and plant. In soils degraded by intensive agriculture, the humus content and thus the content of important humic acids is disturbed – with corresponding negative effects on the availability of nutrients and water. The company HUMINTECH extracts the valuable humic acids from near-surface sediment layers of Rheinish Leonardite. These are further refined into highly effective organic preparations, which are used as soil conditioners, biocatalysts and biostimulants for plants.

Two humic substances with super powers – humic acids and fulvic acids

In times of climate change and the accumulation of water and nutrient deficiencies in cultivation, humic acids and fulvic acids play an increasingly important role in plant cultivation. Humic substances also offer excellent support for home gardeners and public green spaces.

Humic acids increase the water storage capacity of deficit soils

They contribute directly to the development of permanent humus and improve the living conditions for soil organisms such as the earthworm, fungi and bacteria, which through their activity create and maintain a healthy soil. Only a crumbly, humus-rich soil is able to store water like a sponge, provide nutrients to the plant and minimize drought-related stress and the costs of artificial irrigation.

The ability to make nutrients available to plants (mobilize them) in nutrient-poor soils is another important feature, especially of fulvic acids. This means that even with low soil moisture or low nutrient availability, the plant has more resources available for its development. In addition, humic substances buffer pH-related deficits in the soil, which often manifest themselves as symptoms of nutrient deficiency. Through the active addition of humic substances, soils are once again able to compensate for their deficits across the board.

In addition to these properties, humic substances have a whole range of other positive effects on the soil-plant system, about which we would be pleased to inform you on our website.
