The term storage density is used – with varying meanings – both in engineering geology and in soil science. While in soil science it simply refers to the density of the soil, in engineering geology it is the degree of soil compaction. In the first case it doesn't matter whether a high density is caused by a substrate with a high density or by a high compression of the soil matrix.
