Stable humus is resilient and connects to the soil minerals. It contains a supply of nutrients which are gradually released. Stable humus causes lighter soils to become squishier, and improves their ability to store water. It also makes heavy soils more permeable, improves aeration, accelerates the heating process and ensures the crumb structure of the upper soil layers.
