Sodium is a commonly occurring chemical element with the symbol Na (from Latin: natrium) and the atomic number 11. Sodium plays a minor role in plants. While potassium is essential for all plants and most microorganisms, sodium is only needed by some C4 and CAM plants, but usually not by C3 plants.
