Biomass is the material mass of living organisms or their body parts. The quantity of such mixtures of material is specified by its mass (usually in kilogram). In ecology, biomass is often only recorded for specific, spatially defined ecosystems or only individual species. Sometimes, the attempt is made to estimate the biomass of complete ecospheres.
