Humins belong to humic substances and, like fulvic acids and humic acids, are a component of the humus. All three groups of substances are formed by the decomposition of organic matter (humification). In contrast to fulvic and humic acids, humins are not readily soluble in lye - a fact that can be used for substance separation.
