Dispersing agents or dispersants are additives that enable or stabilize the optimal mixing of at least two, normally immiscible substances. Emulsions and in particular suspensions are generated in this dispersion process. An emulsion is a fine mixture of two liquids, such as oil and water. A suspension is a sufficiently stable mixture of very small solids in a liquid. Emulsions and suspensions belong to the group of dispersions.
